Avengers: Infinity War co-director teases Star-Lord’s involvement in the films

Captain America: Civil War looks to be a pretty serious affair with hero fighting hero and sides being chosen. We’re glad to see that Spider-Man and Ant-Man will probably bring some levity to the proceedings, but what about the more intense sounding Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and 2? Well, if the directors of the film can be believed, a third charismatic, funny adventurer will enter the fray: Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord.

Joe and Anthony Russo — who also helmed Captain America: Winter Soldier, Civil War, and the upcoming pair of Avengers films — recently talked about plans for the films that will presumably pit the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe against Thanos.

“The movies are intended to be a culmination of everything that’s happened before in the MCU so you don’t want to get into spoilers but I’m a big fan of what James Gunn has done,” Anthony Russo said. “[Joe and I] are both big fans of what James Gunn has done. Star-Lord is a fantastic character and Chris Pratt is an awesome performer so you’d be very excited.”

Gunn is currently hard at work shooting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, with Pratt and fellow returning cast members Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper. We know next to nothing about that film’s plot aside from the fact that Star-Lord learns more about his dad. Hey, that sounds like just the kind of thing that could bring him back to Earth and get him and the other Guardians embroiled in the Avengers’ affairs!

Captain America: Civil War opens on May 6, 2016 followed by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on May 5, 2017. Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 and 2 will drop on May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 respectively.
