Destiny: The Taken King PlayStation Exclusive Content Won’t Come to Xbox Until 2017

Destiny fans are awaiting the game’s next expansion, Rise of Iron, which launches next month. There is a lot to look forward to: a new raid, a lot of gear to chase, and private matches in PvP. For fans who play on PlayStation 4, there are more exclusives with Rise of Iron, including a quest, ship, and Crucible map.

In the past, previous PlayStation exclusives in Destiny have lost their timed exclusivity and released on Xbox the following year. But this time, things are different. The PlayStation-exclusive content that came in The Taken King last September will in fact remain exclusive until the fall of 2017.

The news has been officially confirmed via the official Destiny website. Listed under the “PS Exclusive” section of the site, many of the items have an asterisk by them. When referenced at the bottom of the page, that asterisk makes it clear that it denotes a timed exclusive “until at least Fall of 2017.”

Xbox players had assumed, based on the past track record of timed PlayStation exclusives, that they would be getting their hands on this content with Rise of Iron, but it looks as though they will have to wait another year.

Here is the full list of the PlayStation-exclusive content from The Taken King and the April Update that will not be coming to Xbox:

It appears that these items will not make it to Xbox players until a full-fledged sequel to Destiny comes out, which is expected to launch in the fall of 2017. There is very little info about Destiny 2 (or whatever it ends up being titled), besides for some leaked art from a rejected pitch for the game and news that most of Bungie is currently working on it.

News of the delay of these PlayStation exclusives is sure to be disappointing to fans playing on Xbox. Since the launch of vanilla Destiny in 2014, PlayStation has gotten exclusives, many of which are actually very good. These are no different. The Jade Rabbit is actually a very effective exotic weapon, the Iron Banner armor can also be very good depending on the roll, and Echo Chamber may be one of the best strikes in the game. Unfortunately, those on Xbox now have an even longer wait to try this content out.

To see everything that is coming in Rise of Iron be sure to check out the expansion’s newest ViDoc trailer.

Destiny: Rise of Iron launches September 20 on PS4 and Xbox One.
