‘Rise of the Tomb Raider’ hits PS4 this October, complete with bonus chapter

Lara Croft’s adventures were closely associated with the PlayStation family of systems throughout the ’90s and 2000s, but last year’s Rise of the Tomb Raider broke the trend, releasing on Xbox One and Xbox 360 before making its way to PC. If you’ve been waiting to play the globe-trotting tale on the PlayStation 4, the wait is nearly over: Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration hits the system this October.

In addition to all DLC previously released, the updated version of the game features a new chapter titled “Blood Ties,” which sees Lara returning to explore her childhood home, Croft Manor, and “Lara’s Nightmare” has her defending against a wave of zombies.

Also included is an enhanced “Endurance” mode, which now incorporates online cooperative play.

“Two players must team up to survive the harsh elements by day, as well as lethal threats from enemies by night,” Square Enix says in a press release. “Battle to the top of the leaderboards, as others try to beat your longest survival run.”

All of the bonus content included for free with the PlayStation 4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider will be made available for Xbox One and PC, but “Blood Ties” will also feature PlayStation VR support, allowing players to control Lara in first-person for the first time.

Square Enix certainly looks to have a busy second half of 2016. In addition to Rise of the Tomb Raider, the publisher is also releasing Deus Ex: Mankind Divided in August, followed by the much anticipated Final Fantasy XV the following month. Hitman also continues to release its episodic content, as well as the ability to virtually assassinate Gary Busey.

Rise of the Tomb Raider hits PlayStation 4 on October 11.
