New Lumines Out In Japan, Australia, New Zealand And Not Here

Unless of course “here” for you is Japan, Australia or New Zealand and you’ve got an iOS or Android device. Then you can play Lumines: Puzzle & Music right now, soaking up all the “Shines” of the modern puzzle classic before the rest of the world gets it in September.

A lot of folks were bummed earlier this year, when it was announced the latest installment of the excellent rhythm puzzle game, developed in collaboration with creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi, would be a mobile game. I wouldn’t have minded another downloadable console version, maybe with a little “Heavenly Star”, like the Xbox Live Arcade version.

Now that I see mobcast’s mobile version in action, I don’t care. I want this now. Unfortunately it’s a premium title, which means I can’t just hop onto my overseas iTunes account and download it. I suppose all I can do is wait until it arrives in North America in September for $2.99.

“It’s unbelievable to think that Lumines launched more than 10 years ago, yet still remains in the hearts and minds of gamers as one of the greatest action puzzle games of all time,” said Tetsuya Mizuguchi, creator of Lumines, via official statement. “I’m humbled by the ongoing fanbase and the overwhelmingly positive response we receive to this news, and we’re dedicated to bringing Lumines to life on mobile devices with the utmost respect to the original that everyone loved.”

Yeah, I’ll figure it out. Maybe I can buy an iTunes card from Australia. Or Luke Plunkett can buy it and gift it to me. No way in hell I am waiting a month and a half. Love finds a way.
