This tiny 4K action camera just got over a million dollars from Indiegogo

One tiny camera is getting some pretty big support — Mokacam, a small 4K camera has racked up over a million dollars in crowdfunding on Indiegogo.

Mokacam uses a 16-megapixel Sony-designed sensor to record 4K video (3,840 x 2,160p) at 25fps. But weighing in at less than three ounces and 1.77 inches in width, Mokacam designers say it’s the smallest 4K camera yet.

While the camera’s small size is enough to pique some interest, the camera packs in a few other features that competing action cameras, most notably GoPro, don’t offer. The add-on screen tilts up to 270 degrees and even adds to the camera’s battery life. Magnetic battery backs also extend the camera’s battery life up to four hours, and since they’re magnetic, they can be added without stopping the recording. The camera’s magnetic back can also be used for mounting on a number of different objects.

The camera’s wide-angle lens captures a 152-degree field of view, but the Mokacam also includes a normal angle mode that eliminates the barrel distortion created by wide lenses. While the frame rate isn’t quite as fast as the GoPro Hero4 Black, the still resolution is higher at 16 megapixels and the waterproof case is rated another 32 feet with a maximum depth almost to 200 feet.

The Mokacam also uses a built-in motion sensor — set to motion mode, it can double as a security camera or simply record only what you want. In the motion-sensing mode, the battery will last for up to eight hours.

The impressive specs on the Mokacam have led to an Indiegogo campaign that has exceeded the original goal by 1,333 percent. The first 1,500 of nearly 6,000 backers have already received their camera, with the camera continuing to ship out in batches by the date ordered. The bundle with the camera, case, mount, backup battery, screen, remote, and case is expected to list for $279, with a discount to $199 on Indiegogo.
