Rumor: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Is Getting Remastered

While some Call of Duty fans have expressed disappointment in the rumors that the next Call of Duty will take place in space, a leaked Target pre-order card could make fans a little more enthusiastic about the franchise. According to the Target pre-order card, the beloved Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is getting remastered for current-gen consoles for release later this year.

The Target pre-order card indicates that the remastered Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will be included in the Legacy Edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. It’s unclear at this point if Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered will be available as a standalone purchase as well, or if players will be forced to pick up the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Legacy Edition to get access to the game.

What’s also unknown is what Call of Duty 4 Remastered will feature exactly. If the game has online multiplayer, it seems like Activision would be competing with itself a bit, as many veteran Call of Duty players may be more interested in revisiting Call of Duty 4 than playing the new game in the series. Even so, it seems obvious that there’s a lot of money to be made with a Call of Duty 4 Remaster, so it could be worth the risk of cutting into the sales of Infinite Warfare.

Speaking of Infinite Warfare, this leaked Target pre-order card also reveals some information about the new game in the series. For one, it confirms that Call of Duty 2016‘s title is in fact Infinite Warfare, and it also reveals that the game will launch on November 4th of this year. It also offers our first look at Infinite Warfare‘s box art, which appears to show a man carrying a helmet or gas mask of some sort.

With Activision rumored to be releasing the first Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare trailer next week, it makes sense that marketing material for the game is being shipped to retailers right now. For this reason and the legitimate look of the card, there is little reason to doubt that it’s real, so Call of Duty enthusiasts can safely look forward to a remastered Call of Duty 4 releasing at some point this year – assuming this isn’t an elaborate hoax of some sort.

In the meantime, it will be interesting to see if Modern Warfare 2 is remastered as well. Previously, rumors indicated that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare would have CoD 4 and MW2 as pre-order bonuses on Xbox One as backward compatible Xbox 360 games, but if remastered versions of the games are coming, that seems unlikely. If Activision does indeed release the first trailer for Infinite Warfare next week, hopefully a few of these lingering questions about the future of the franchise are answered as well.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is reportedly in development for various consoles for release on November 4th of this year.
