Controversial video game, Paranautical Activity, gets an April 29th release on Xbox One

Paranautical Activity: Deluxe Atonement Edition has just been given the official release date of April 29th for Microsoft’s Xbox One video game console. The game already arrived on Nintendo’s WiiU console two weeks earlier on April 14th and one day before that, it premiered on the Steam digital game service.

An official teaser trailer has also been released which showcases some of the gameplay and you can watch it below.

Paranautical Activity: Deluxe Atonement Edition features a retro pixel-style design and is a first-person shooter similar to Doom and Quake. The gameplay is incredibly fast and each level is procedurally generated which should add to its replayability. The game also boasts over 100 enemy types, 40 plus items to collect and use, and a dubstep soundtrack.

This particular version of the game contains developer footage and commentary, a pro gamer guide, and several bits of exclusive digital content such as 1 new level type (Frozen), 1 new weapon (Recoil Rifle), and 1 new item (The Digerati Defibrillator).

The original release of Paranautical Activity on Steam in 2014 was surrounded by controversy after its original developer, Mike Maulbeck, began tweeting aggressively at Steam and the company’s employee, Gabe Newell, in response to Steam mislabelling the game as “Early Access” (i.e. not a final product) during a promotional campaign.

Maulbeck began his tweeting with a couple of violent outburst like, “First they force me to delay the game because I can’t release on weekends, now this. Steam is the most incompetent piece of f______ sh__” before concluding his rampage with an actual death threat which read, “I am going to kill Gabe Newell. He is going to die.” Really professional.

Digerati Distribution has since taken over the title and they are the ones behind this re-release. Impressively, they’re being very upfront about the initial drama associated with the game’s first release.
