HBO’s Ballers is set to return this summer, along with two new series

The impending premiere of Game of Thrones season 6 has dominated many HBO-related conversations lately, but the premium network has plenty of other engrossing content on the horizon as well. HBO announced today that Ballers season 2 is set to premiere in July, along with two new shows, The Night Of and Vice Principals.

After scoring big ratings during season 1, Ballers is returning for 10 more episodes on July 17 at 10:00 pm ET. Dwayne Johnson is back as Spencer Strasmore, a former pro athlete turned financial manager to superstars. Created by Stephen Levinson, the series boasts a fun cast, including Rob Corrdry, Omar Benson Miller, Jazmyn Simon, John David Washington, Arielle Kebble, and more.

Johnson promised via a tweet that the show will “dig deeper” and “ball so hard” in the upcoming season 2.

Dark Comedy Vice Principals shares a premiere date with Ballers, following directly after at 10:30 pm with the first of its nine episodes. Not surprisingly given its title, the series focuses on a school’s two vice principals, played by Danny McBride and Walton Goggins. These aren’t two administrators working together peacefully — instead, they’ll be busy battling it out to take over as principal. The series comes from co-creators McBride and Jody Hill and is executive produced by the duo alongside David Gordon Green and Stephanie Laing.

The third show, The Night Of, premieres a week earlier, on July 10 at 9:00 pm ET. An eight-part limited series, the show stars John Turturro and Riz Ahmed and centers on a complicated New York City murder case, extending from the investigation to the legal proceedings and beyond. The Night Of is created by Steven Zaillian and Richard Price, and directed by Zaillian from teleplays by the two.

As ideal a month as July can be for exercise and activity, HBO’s content may have you rethinking such plans. A little couch and TV time can’t hurt, right?
