Dark Souls 3: First DLC Details Arrive

While most gamers probably have yet to complete the ultra-difficult Dark Souls III, some may have already conquered the game and are looking forward to what’s next for the franchise. Well, similarly to the games that preceded it, Dark Souls III has DLC on the way, and Bandai Namco has now revealed some details on the game’s first DLC offering.

According to Bandai Namco, Dark Souls III enthusiasts can expect the game’s first expansion to release this fall. That’s quite a ways away, and could mean that the second expansion for the game won’t come until November if the company really wishes to push it. Regardless, gamers will have the option to purchase the expansions as individual purchases, or they can buy the $25 Dark Souls III season pass – as long as they’re OK with waiting five months or so for the content.

As for what the first expansion for Dark Souls III will entail, that’s anyone’s guess at this point. Bandai Namco has given a vague description of the kind of content that will be available to those that purchase the season pass, however. Apparently, the Dark Souls III DLC will include new areas, new bosses to fight, new enemies, new weapons, and new armor for players to collect. Having said that, anyone familiar with the Dark Souls franchise could probably have guessed as much.

While there’s still a lot of unknowns about the first Dark Souls III DLC except for its release window, it’s a safe bet that it will probably be a high quality experience. DLC for past Dark Souls games have earned critical acclaim, as have expansions released for similar games by From Software. For example, Bloodborne‘s Old Hunters expansion that released late last year had rave reviews from numerous gaming outlets. Considering From Software’s track record with expansions, the Dark Souls III season pass may be one of the safest season pass purchases a gamer can make.

To that end, From Software has done a great job with Dark Souls III, and there’s no reason to think that the game’s DLC won’t deliver on those same levels. Dark Souls III has been one of the strongest reviewed games of the year so far, as our own Dark Souls III review will attest, and it’s yet another strong entry in the franchise. So while we still know very little about Dark Souls III‘s DLC, From Software’s proven track record speaks for itself.

Dark Souls III is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
