'Dead Rising' and two follow-ups to return in re-releases

Dead Rising, Capcom's proverbial spinning plates game set against the backdrop of a zombie apocalypse, is coming to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for the first time.

A sequel, Dead Rising 2, and that sequel's Off the Record spin-off are also pegged for a re-release, but only on PS4 and Xbox One. Capcom confirmed all three releases in a brief announcement after rumors laid the news bare.

Word of Dead Rising's return first came from a PlayStation Trophy list uncovered by Exophase for the original game, which was never released for anything other than Xbox 360. Capcom later confirmed the full slate of re-releases in a statement given to Eurogamer.

Dead Rising and its sequels are unique in their approach to time management. They're all open world games that emphasize exploration, but you're constantly under the pressure of a ticking clock that compels you to tackle story-related quests at specific times.

It's possible to simply ignore the clock and do whatever you want, but that approach leaves certain sections of the game inaccessible. It also results in less involved endings, usually unhappy ones.

It's not clear what Capcom intends to do when it comes to sprucing up these re-releases. The publisher's statement simply notes that more will be revealed "soon."

Dead Rising 4 is out for Xbox One in December and Comic-Con International in San Diego is just days away. The news Capcom promised may be coming even sooner than you think.
