YouTube/Vine heartthrob Cameron Dallas headed to Netflix

LOS ANGELES — Netflix has tapped Vine and YouTube star Cameron Dallas for a new unscripted series.

The Los Gatos-based streaming giant announced the yet-to-be-titled series on Wednesday, just one day before the massive online video conference VidCon.

The series will follow Dallas and his friends and family "as he looks to take his career to the next level," Netflix said in its release.

"It’s not all selfies and Vine videos as the series explores the stark contrast between his very public online persona and who he is in his personal life," the description reads.

Dallas posted a photo on Twitter Wednesday, teasing the series with "you think you know."

Dallas, 21, became even more popular after starring in AwesomenessTV's Expelled, a Ferris Bueller-esque film for Gen Z viewers.

The comedy, which launched in December 2014, follows Felix (played by Dallas), a legendary prankster who seems to always charm his way out of trouble.

It debuted at No. 1 on iTunes and stayed in the top 10 for four weeks.

He also starred alongside fellow Vine  star and friend Nash Grier in Fullscreen's The Outfield.

The digital influencer is currently on a tour called MagCon alongside fellow Vine stars.

Dallas is the second digital influencer to make the jump to Netflix.

Earlier this year, the streaming service announced Haters Back Off, a series about Miranda Sings, a.k.a. Colleen Ballinger.

The news is indicative of Netflix's push into attracting younger viewers. The streaming service is heading to VidCon for its first time to promote the Miranda Sings show.

Hulu, too, has made efforts to attract fans of YouTubers and Vine stars. It recently picked up an AwesomenessTV show called Freakish.
